Note that the date to submit public comment for the Susitna River Dam project (Project No. 14241-001) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is  Jan. 18, 2013. AEA works with stakeholders to develop revised study plan

FERC determination expected Feb. 1

The Susitna-Watana Hydro Proposed Study Plan contains 58 individual studies and was filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on July 16. The full plan is available online at Susitna-WatanaHydro.org and contains studies in the following resource areas: geology and soils; water resources; instream flow; fish and aquatics; wildlife; botanical resources; recreation and aesthetics; cultural and paleontological; subsistence; socioeconomic and transportation; and project safety. These studies are in addition to the 18 studies completed this year and the valuable historical information from the 1980s Susitna Hydroelectric project.Read More…

Susitna-Watana Hydro maps and GIS data now online

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has worked with AEA to develop an interactive map that can be used to learn more about the location of Susitna-Watana Hydro and surrounding areas. It’s even smart-phone compatible! http://www.dmlwmaps.dnr.alaska.gov/Watana

For those who are more familiar with GIS data, a more technical site can be found here: http://www.dmlwmaps.dnr.alaska.gov/Watana_App. Users can also download the GIS data and search by place names.
