NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING OF THE
ALASKA BOARD OF FISHERIES’ UPPER COOK INLET TASK FORCE
The Upper Cook Inlet Task Force of the Board of Fisheries (Board) will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Challenger Learning Center, 9711 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai, Alaska.
The Board established the Task Force to evaluate options for possible changes to the Kenai River Late-Run King Salmon Management Plan and associated Upper Cook Inlet salmon fisheries regulations. This Task Force is made up of two Board members (who serve as co-chairs of the Task Force), three Upper Subdistrict set gillnet fishers, one drift gillnet fisher, two sports fishers, one sports guide, one personal use (dip net) fisher, and one marine recreation member.
The Task Force Mission and Organization Statement, tentative dates and locations of additional monthly meetings are all located on the Board of Fisheries website at: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=fisheriesboard.taskforce
No regulatory action will be taken at these meetings. It is intended that parliamentary procedures for Task Force work will follow the “New England Town Meeting” style, and that Task Force co-chairs will manage the meetings in a manner that encourages open and respectful exchange of information and ideas, seeking to achieve resolution of misunderstandings and consensus solutions where possible.
After the Task Force has completed the work from each meeting a written summary will be prepared to capture and summarize the general discussion and any recommendations of the Task Force, which will then be made available to the public.
Agenda topics for the January meeting will include but not be limited to: 2013 Escapement Goal Review and a discussion on management strategies when the Alaska Department of Fish and Game projects abundance below escapement goals of the Kenai River Late-Run King salmon fishery.
The agenda and meeting materials will be available through the Department of Fish and Game Boards Support Section and will also be posted on the Board of Fisheries website above. Audio streaming will not be available on the website for this meeting. For information about the meeting or meeting materials, contact the Boards Support Section at (907) 465-4110.
